About Compass Academy

Education with
direction.

Compass Academy was founded on a simple belief: tutoring works best when every lesson forms part of a clear, measurable plan.

We bring together high-quality teaching, targeted practice, useful feedback and consistent accountability. This helps students grow in confidence while making progress parents can understand.

Meet Compass AcademyA short introduction to our approach
Founder, Compass Academy

Punit Chhaya

Punit founded Compass Academy with a simple belief: great tutoring should do more than fill an hour each week.

With close to a decade of experience teaching GCSE Mathematics, Punit has worked with students across a wide range of abilities and seen first-hand what drives meaningful progress. His approach combines strong teaching with clear direction, purposeful practice, regular feedback and accountability, so students understand not only what they need to improve, but how to get there.

Alongside classroom teaching, Punit’s experience spans student development, financial education, mentoring teachers and delivering professional development to teaching staff.

He created Compass Academy to bring these principles together in a more structured approach to tuition: one where every lesson has a purpose, progress is visible, and students receive the support they need to become more confident and capable mathematicians.

Known for clear explanation, thoughtful curriculum planning and a strong track record of positive results, Madar helps ensure every Compass student receives teaching that is rigorous, focused and responsive to their needs.

A familiar frustration

Is your child capable
of more in Maths?

Often, the issue is not effort or ability. It is a lack of clarity about where the gaps are, what to prioritise and whether revision is actually working.

01

They understand topics in lessons but struggle to apply them in exams.

02

Earlier gaps keep resurfacing and blocking new learning.

03

They revise, but are unsure what deserves their attention first.

04

Work gets completed without knowing whether it is improving their grade.

05

Consistency slips without the right structure and accountability.

Compass provides a clear route forward: identify what is holding progress back, teach the right content, and reinforce it through purposeful practice and feedback.

The Compass method

Direction before repetition.

Every student starts with clarity. Then each part of their support has a purpose.

01

Identify

We pinpoint the student’s current strengths, gaps and highest-priority areas.

02

Build

We create a structured approach around the areas that will have the greatest impact.

03

Progress

Consistent teaching, practice, feedback and accountability move students towards their target grade.

Parent experiences

What parents say.

Hear from parents whose children have received structured Maths support through Compass Academy.

The improvement we’ve seen has been fantastic. My son went from lacking confidence and struggling with certain topics to feeling much more secure in Maths. The lessons are structured, focused and have made a real difference to his progress.

Parent of Year 11 student

My daughter used to get really anxious about Maths, especially when she came across questions she didn’t immediately understand. She’s now much more confident, willing to have a go and actually enjoys seeing herself improve.

Parent of Year 10 student

What really stands out is the level of care and direction. It doesn’t feel like just another tutoring lesson each week. There’s a clear understanding of where my child needs support and what they need to do next. I couldn’t recommend Compass Academy enough.

Parent of GCSE Maths student

Punit is approachable, patient and encouraging, with a real ability to identify weaknesses and focus on the areas that need the most attention. His clear explanations and personalised support have improved both understanding and confidence in Maths. He is punctual, reliable and genuinely committed to progress — we would highly recommend Punit and Compass Academy.

Reshma · Parent of Year 11 student

Punit helped our son rebuild his confidence, motivation and love for Maths, achieve outstanding GCSE results and choose the subject at A level. His support goes far beyond the curriculum: he notices when students are struggling, cares about the whole child and carefully trains and selects tutors to suit individual needs. He has made a lasting difference to both our children.
